Word of the Day: Strade Bianche

White Roads
A narrow country lane in Italy made of dirt and white stone gravel. The small roads become quite dusty in summer and muddy in winter. Some are in good condition, others are better for hiking than driving. They run through the countryside of Tuscany (these are the roads that do not lead to Rome!)
una strada bianca - white road
delle strade bianche - white roads (plural)
lo sterrato - dirt trail, or unhardened road
Today's route of Stage 5 of the Giro d'Italia, connected sections of strade bianche. Off-road road biking at its best.
