We will get the chance to cheer on the young and talented team of Bontrager next week at the USA Pro Challenge. Joe Dombrowski, who won the best young rider jersey in the 2012 edition of the race is now racing with team SKY and will return as a teammate of Chris Froome and Richie Porte. The Bontrager team remains loaded with other good riders.

Talent got you this far now what?Talent is easy, you were born with it. When it comes to ability you got a free pass. But you're not the only one. There are places in this world where talent is just plain common. You'll run into them soon enough, if they don't find you first. The question is when you do, will you have what it takes when the rubber hits the road? To take it to the next level? Will you have what it takes to do what is asked? To work? To learn? To listen? To improve? To be humble in respect of your gifts? To own up, to grow up, to have the confidence, to breakthrough? Riding with us isn't about your talent. It's about what you decide to do with it.

Axel's Axes achievement scale
Some of the riders on team Bontrager Pro Cycling have raced and grown together for two to four years now, but this is an Under-23 (race age) development team and unlike Jens Voigt who can stay until retirement, it is time for these young riders to move onward and upward. Those moving on include: Nate Brown, Gavon Mannion, and Jasper Stuyven. Nate Brown was picked up by Garmin-Sharp for 2014.

As seen in the video below of Nate Brown (team leader for the 2013 USA Pro Challenge), some of these young men found their interest through their parents or at local races as young as ten years-old. Why not take your son or daughter (or a neighbor's child) to a race this week. Expose them to the sport, let them watch and observe; you never know whether a fire will be lit within.

If you are at the USA Pro Challenge next week in Colorado, let that young rider go up and say hi to one of the Bontrager pro riders, you will find them exceedingly likeable, courteous and professional. This is a team I really like. It is also one of the reasons the race owners and organizers of the USA Pro Challenge bring this race to our backyard and invite team Bontrager to be on the list of teams every year - to further develop the sport of cycling.

Chris Froome and Peter Sagan coming to Colorado!

Will Froome wear yellow in Colorado? Will Peter Sagan wear green?

Big news today as it was officially announced that Chris Froome will race in the 2013 USA Pro Challenge. VeloNews also published the news that Cannondale officials have confirmed that Peter Sagan will race in the 2013 USA Pro Challenge as well.

This is huge news for the UCI 2.HC stage race tour in Colorado. The race is on, and if I were Tejay van Garderen, Christian VandeVelde, or Tom Danielson or Tyler Farrar - I'd be shaking in my boots knowing how much this competition across the high altitude mountains of Colorado is going to hurt.

Interestingly enough Joe Dombrowski who won the Best Young Rider jersey last year at the USA Pro Challenge for Bontrager, is now riding on Chris Froome's team SKY. With Richie Porte, Dombrowski and Froome all on the same team - this could be a big year for SKY in Colorado!

This will definitely be a big year for cycling fans in Colorado!

Team SKY's 8-man squad for the 2013 USA Pro Challenge:

Chris Froome, Ian Boswell, Joe Dombrowski, Danny Pate, Peter Kennaugh, Richie Porte, Kanstantsin Siutsou, and British neo-pro Josh Edmondson.

The other good news is that Jens Voigt will be next door in Utah racing the Tour of Utah the week before the USA Pro Challenge, I hope he stops by Colorado after. Chris Horner will be racing the Tour of Utah as well, but he is on the roster to ride the Vuelta, so that means no Colorado.

Also headed to the Vuelta a España this year are Ivan Basso, Vincenzo Nibali, Jakob Fuglsang, Alejandro Valverde, Igor Antón, Samuel Sánchez, Carlos Betancur, Bauke Mollema, Sergio Henao and Rigoberto Urán.

Alberto Contador says he will not be at the Vuelta in 2013. Part of his team however will be in Colorado, which part - I am waiting to hear.

Wait ... this means Bernie Eisel isn't coming to Colorado with Team SKY - darn!

Awh well, I can't wait to see who else will be racing in Colorado in 2013! Hopefully the full startlist of riders will be announced soon.

Read: Cycling's Road Forward - Can Joe Dombrowski ride out of Lance Armstrong's shadow? By Rick Maese in The Washington Post

"...With dark-framed glasses and unassuming presence, Dombrowski looks more like a computer analyst than a world-class athlete. It wasn’t long ago that he was simply riding his bike on weekends along Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park. As he kept getting faster, opportunities opened up, prompting him to leave his home near Warrenton, abandon his studies at George Mason University and uproot his life."

In the past two to three years I have intentionally snapped as many photos as I could of three particular athletes because I thought, I will want these later when they are big. Well big came soon for Tejay Van Garderen, Peter Sagan and Joe Dombrowski.

Col de la Madone, France

In this recommended reading article, Joe Dombrowski now lives and trains in Nice, France, and frequently rides Col de la Madonne. I have never ridden this climb so I refer to others who have.

“When you watch the Tour de France on TV, is it just because it’s entertainment? Or is it the beauty, seeing these guys suffering and struggling up mountains over the course of three weeks? There’s a beauty in pure human performance, isn’t there?” he said. “I think that’s what’s so great about cycling." ~ Joe Dombrowski

For sure there will be more of Joe Dombrowski to come ...

More Photos from Aspen

It was the perfect morning for being a fan
I am ready to revisit a recent morning in Aspen at the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. Why? Because it was the perfect setting for any pro cycling fan and I have lots more pictures to share with you. In Aspen the ease of spotting riders and the who's who of cycling was non-stop, plus everyone was in a good mood. Aspen, Colorado is a nice town with nice accommodations, good food and beautiful mountain scenery (excellent fishing, skiing, mountain biking, cycling, nordic skiing, hiking). Even though the morning fell between two very difficult stages, everyone appeared to be well taken care of, happy and well fed.

I am sorry for the breaking news today that Bradley Wiggins did not enjoy the Tour de France. He should have come to Aspen to race. It never occurred to me that winning the Tour de France should be coupled with niceties and enjoyment, but I think Bradley might be onto to something. Is a hotel room, a good meal, friendly press, no coach transfer and 8 hours of sleep too much to ask for from a stage race? Not in Aspen it isn't.

The TV coverage of the Tour de France always shows the media hounding the Leader with lots of pushing and shoving and loss of patience. I was in France last summer, here was the crowd waiting outside the Sky team bus for Bradley Wiggins at the start in Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateau in July.

They don't let these kind of crowds form at the Tour de France, it is far more civilized and Gendarmmafied (I made that word up - it means policed in FrenchAmericanese), the French promote social order, through a constant joy of policing each other. America is the land of equal opportunity, that translates to freedom for fans, and unprecedented access. I mean it, you gotta come to this race!

Maybe Bradley Wiggins would have a better time if he got closer to the fans and further from the media. Fans generally don't mention doping and who else is going to win, at least not to your face. Now that we are on the topic, I think everyone should join Bradley Wiggins in Aspen. Take a look at the fan access to riders and the scene on a beautiful morning in the Rocky Mountains (FYI Bradley - direct flights from London to Denver International Airport!).

I'd also like to mention that the Difficult Campground was the perfect location for camping and riding up Independence Pass from the Aspen side, and that the public showers at the Aspen Recreation Center were just fine (open 6am-8:45pm). But this is what happens when you are photo media and forget to charge your battery while out camping.
