Word of the Day: hellingen

260 kilometers with flats and hellingen

Helligen is the plural form of helling (noun), a Dutch word meaning an inclination or a slope, or a dip (geology) (diminutive hellinkje, diminutive plural hellinkjes). Tomorrows Tour of Flanders race will have many hellingen.

Used in a sentence format: Today I had a hell of a ride over the hellingen of the Black Forest in Colorado in 30 mph winds for 3 hours. Ugh.

The French word for small hill or climb in a stage is cote, plural les cotes. The Flemish word is berg or mont.
