FANS

What stages to see in 2011?

There are so many choices to see the race this year ... start, time trial, finish, lake, coastline, vineyards, mountain climb, small cities, large cities. The largest cycling event in America is now 7 years old.

The 2011 Tour of California route:

Stage 1: Monday, May 16 - South Lake Tahoe to North Lake Tahoe CANCELLED
Stage 2: Tuesday, May 17 - Squaw Valley Nevada City to Sacramento
Stage 3: Tuesday, May 17 – Auburn to Modesto
Stage 4: Wednesday, May 18 – Livermore to San Jose
Stage 5: Thursday, May 19 – Seaside to Paso Robles (wine wine wine!)
Stage 6: Friday, May 20 – Solvang Individual Time Trial (more wine!)

I am so happy to see the Individual Time Trial return to Solvang, CA. A great town to both ride in, and spend the day watching the race. Lots of fun and lots going on all day. Some pictures from the time trial in 2009 in Solvang, CA:

Stage 7: Saturday, May 21 – Claremont to Mt. Baldy
(Stage 7 will be the route of this year's first L'Etape du California - citizen cyclosportif)
The route of the mountain climb is unusual for stage 7, there will be a section where fans can watch the riders pass by in both directions (!). The excitement will be on the final very steep 15 switchbacks to the finish on Mt Baldy.

Stage 8: Sunday, May 22 – Santa Clarita to Thousand Oaks
