Public Transportation: Alternative forms of transportation to L.A. LIVE events. In addition to the MTA Red Line, which brings fans to 7th and Figueroa and the Blue Line which drops off one block from STAPLES Center at Flower and Pico, the MTA just opened their new Expo Line that also brings riders to the Pico Station across from STAPLES Center. Each of the lines can accommodate passengers with bicycles. For more details on the new Expo Line and other Metro services please visit www.metro.net.

The event by numbers: an unknown number cycling spectators along the route from Beverly Hills to L.A. LIVE from 8:30-12:00, 20,000 at the Kings (ice hockey) game at 12:00pm, and Clippers (basketball) game at 7:00pm. As a side story: AEG is in the middle of a 22 million dollar environmental impact report for a new 80,000 seat football stadium adjacent to Staples Center. They may well be hoping for the same result of scaring away all other traffic such as happened with carmagedon and the 84 Olympics so they can justify their limited Environmental Impact Report (EIR) impact. If they cannot manage the cycling race plus the two other events then there is no way a downtown football stadium of maybe 80,000 fans can function.

Please don't let this scare you away from coming to the bike race. The cycling race is first and early. I lived in Los Angeles during the 1984 Olympics when they scared citizens so badly about traffic jams, that everyone left town or did not attend, and in the end there was no traffic.
